Dr Chinwoke Clara Ifeanyi-obi is an established researcher in environmentally sustainable management discourse in agriculture. She is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. Her passion to contribute to enhancing the livelihood of over 60% of the Nigerian population who lives in the rural area is the drive behind her specializing in Agricultural Extension. She has made significant contribution to strengthening climate resilience of poor rural famers as well as providing credible evidence for policy decisions and interventions in climate change initiatives in the Nigerian Agricultural sector.
Dr Ifeanyi-obi was a Post Doc research fellow of the United Kingdom Department for International Development under the Climate Impact Research Capacity and Leadership Enhancement (CIRCLE) Programme; Research fellow of the African Institute for Mathematical Science under the fellowship programme for women in climate change science and a Global Fellow of the Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Studies, Brown University, USA. She is currently an AWARD Fellow under the Gender Responsive Agriculture Systems (GRASP) Fellowship. She has published widely, made presentations in high profile professional meetings around the world and won several research grants and awards particularly in the area of climate change.
Clara is actively involved in public engagements and the facilitation of strategic partnerships between key stakeholders in rural development in Nigeria. She is the National Coordinator of the Society for Climate Action in Nigeria (SCAN).
She hopes to work more on mainstreaming gender and ICT into Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) discourse and furthering partnerships among key players in agriculture and climate change as a way to facilitate the uptake of CSA among rural dwellers in Nigeria; hence improve agricultural productivity, farmers‟ resilience to climate change effects, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
