Kafilat Adebola Bawa-Allah PhD, is an environmental toxicologist with over seven years of teaching and research experience. Her research area of specialization is aquatic toxicology with special interests in heavy metal toxicity and bioavailability in polluted ecosystems. She has carried out several studies which assessed the ecological risks associated with heavy metal pollution in lagoon ecosystems and others which focused on developing cell-based systems that can serve as viable in vitro methods for toxicological studies in both freshwater and saltwater ecosystems. Her current research is aimed at developing computer-based models for assessing heavy metal toxicity and bioavailability in tropical surface waters. Dr Bawa-Allah is a recipient of several awards including the Commonwealth Rutherford Postdoctoral Fellowship awarded by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission which she recently completed at King’s College London. She has mentored several undergraduate and postgraduate students during her academic career and currently has over twenty publications in reputable peer review journals. She is also a member of several reputable scientific organisations.
