Biographical Info:

Ismail Odetokun is presently a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine and the Sub Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. He instructs graduate students in Veterinary Public Health and undergraduates in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program. Though he is an early-career academic researcher, he is highly motivated to conduct research in food safety and zoonotic diseases as they affect public health. His research interests are concentrated in the fields of foodborne illnesses, food safety, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the food chain. He has some publications in reputable local and international journals to his credit.
At the University of Ibadan in Nigeria, Ismail earned his DVM, Master of Veterinary Public Health, and PhD in Veterinary Public Health. He received numerous national and international scholarships and awards as a student. He currently works at his university, where he participates in several committees in an administrative capacity. He served on the first GHI Conference on Food Safety and Security's Scientific Committee. Additionally, he belongs to numerous academic and professional organizations. He is a member of the Nigerian Young Academy. He is on the editorial board of some reputable national and international journals.
He has plans to develop strong collaborative networks as he hopes to be a desired next-generation expert on food safety, AMR, and One Health. He interacts with the stakeholders in food protection from across the world to foster regional and international cooperation to develop cutting-edge research towards sound public health.
Ismail hopes to become a university professor with a highly competitive scientific capability, producing accomplished undergraduate and postgraduate students while conducting evidence-based scientific research that would lead to disease control and the establishment of policies to improve public health, especially in developing countries like Nigeria.
