Olufunke Fayehun obtained a B.Sc in Statistics, M.Sc and PhD in Sociology (Demography) at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. During the doctoral training program, she received the Council for Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) grant for doctoral research in 2005, African Doctoral Dissertation Research Fellowship (ADDRF) in 2008 and USAID/ICF Macro MEASURE DHS Fellowship in Population and Health in 2009/2010. After the PhD program, she received a TETFUND/National University Commission’s study postdoctoral award for a Graduate Academic Certificate in Specialist in Aging at the University of North Texas, Denton, USA.
The major thrust of her research is in Demography and Population studies. She has, within this context, explored how social, household and the built environment affect different vulnerable groups in selected African societies using a mixed-method approach. Her focus has been on three core areas: child health and survival, women’s health and wellbeing, and population aging. Over the years, She has been part of research project grants and currently collaborating on some multi-country and multi-disciplinary research projects, including urban slum health access and utilization in Africa and Asia, traditional contraceptive use in Africa, mobile consulting for remote and marginalised communities in Africa, data and displacement in assessing humanitarian protection in Africa (https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3769-2130). In addition, She is involved in the capacity strengthening of early career researchers in population and public health in Africa through the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA- https://www.cartafrica.org/). She is the current chairperson of the CARTA Board of Management:2021-2022.
