Dr Mutiu Idowu Kazeem is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos, Nigeria. He holds BTech (Hons) from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria. He also obtained both MSc and PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria in 2006 and 2012 respectively.
His research interests include antidiabetic drug discovery, phytomedicine, as well as diabetes and metabolism. The main thrust of his research is the search for safer, more effective and affordable drugs from natural sources – medicinal plants, foods, aquatic organisms for the management of chronic diseases. This is due to the undesirable side effects and sometimes resistance to the present synthetic drugs.
Dr Kazeem is currently the Acting Head of the Department of Biochemistry, Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos. He is also the Assistant Director, Research Management and Innovation at the Lagos State University, Lagos. He is a Postgraduate External Examiner at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria as well as the University of Zululand and North West University, both in South Africa.
Dr Kazeem is a member of many reputable learned societies including the Nigerian Society for Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (NSBMB), the Nigerian Society for Experimental Biology (NISEB), and the South African Society for Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (SASBMB). He has published several articles in reputable journals and books.
