Prof. Festus Basden Chiedu Okoye received his Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) from University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 2000, Master of Pharmacy (M. Pharm) in Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry from University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 2003 and Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry from University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 2009; He held a postdoctoral training at International Centre for Science and High Technology (ICS-UNIDO), Italy (2009) in Nanomedicinal Chemistry. He also held a postdoctoral position at the Heinrich Heine University, Dusseldorf, Germany (2011 to 2012) under the sponsorship of Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. His research has focused on the discovery and development of novel anticancer lead molecules from medicinal plants and associated fungi endophytes. He was promoted to full Professor of Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry in 2017. He has published more than one hundred and twenty (120) refereed papers in scientific peer reviewed journals with majority of these journal articles being Thomson Reuters Impact Factor Journals, eight (8) book chapters and monographs. He has been cited more than 2100 times according to Google Scholar with H-Index of 26. He has been awarded several funding and travel grants from International Centre for Science and High Technology (ICS-UNIDO), Italy; Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany; Society for Medicinal Plants and Natural Product Research, Switzerland; International Congress on Natural Product Research, USA; African Research Network on Neglected Tropical Diseases, Germany; Pan African Chemistry Network Ethiopia; Cluster in Biomedicine (CBM), Italy, African Research Network on Neglected Tropical Diseases, Malawi, etc. In 2010, he received the STEP-B Innovators of Tomorrows Award for 2008/2009 Academic year and in 2014, he was the winner of African Union-The World Academy of Science (AU-TWAS) Young Scientist National Award (Life Science Category).

He is reviewer in more than twenty (20) peer review journals. He is member, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria; member, National Association of Pharmacists in Academia; member, Inflammation Research Association (USA); member, Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (GA) (Europe); member; member, Nigerian Young Academy; member, Royal Society of Chemistry; member, NUC Action Committee for the Promotion of University Biomedical Research and Development; member, Panel of Judges for Schlumberger SEED program for promoting STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) in secondary schools; and member, National Mirror Committee on Standardization of Traditional Medicine (Committee set up by the President of Nigeria at the instance of Standard Organization of Nigeria). He is a member of expert reviewers for African Research Excellence Fund, and a Fellow of Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

He has served in various capacities in the University including four-time head of department, member VC adhoc committees, member various PG committees and currently the Coordinator University/Industry Relationship, Patents and Proprietary Rights. Professor Okoye has been a mentor to many budding scientists in Natural Product Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, He has successfully supervised and graduated 8 PhD and 25 MSc degree students. He is currently the dean of Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Prof. Okoye is a minister of the Gospel; he is married to Dr. Mrs. Nkeoma Okoye and the marriage is blessed with 4 children.
