Oyetunde Oyeyemi is a Professor of Parasitology and Tropical Medicine in the Department of Biosciences and Biotechnology, University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, Ondo State, Nigeria and the Director of Central Office for Research and Development (CORD). He holds a Ph.D. degree in Zoology and specializes in Parasitology. His research activities are focused primarily on epidemiology and control of transmission of parasitic diseases. He is currently unmasking schistosomes proteins which can serve as diagnostic blueprints for schistosomiasis. Oyeyemi is a fellow of the Nigerian Science Leadership Programme (FNSLP), Nigerian Young Academy (FNYA), the African Scientist Institute (FASI), and AREF Excell Researcher and Leadership Development Programme (an initiative that seeks to build the capacity of African ‘rising stars’ in global health). He was a Section Editor (Biological Sciences & Health) of Annals of Science and Technology (2020-2024), and he has guest edited a number of topics in tropical medicine-related disciplines. He is a beneficiary of few local and international research grants and several international travel grants. He was a Visiting Scientist at the University of Essex, United Kingdom, and a former Postdoctoral fellow at the National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi, India, and Rene Rachou Institute, Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), Belo Horizonte, Brazil. He was a recipient of the Fulbright African Scholars Programme tenable at the Old Dominion University, United States. He was awarded the Best Researcher in 2018, and an Outstanding Researcher in 2022 at the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo. He’s an ardent scholar with a very wide network of collaborators in countries like; United Kingdom, United States, Brazil, Germany, China, India, and many African countries. Dr. Oyeyemi seeks to facilitate knowledge transfer in Africa through networking and collaboration for capacity building. His long-term goal is to be a research champion in Africa who will facilitate drug, vaccine, and efficient diagnostics discovery against tropical parasitic diseases.
