Biographical Info
Biographical Info:
OS Adeyemi is a biochemistry professor with a research focus on medicinal biochemistry, toxicology, and nanomedicine. He is a faculty member at Landmark University, Nigeria, where he teaches biochemistry to the undergraduate and postgraduate classes. He was a pioneering head in the department of biochemistry at Landmark University, and he served as the Director of Academic Planning at the same institution. Currently, he is a JSPS Visiting Scholar at Tohoku University, Japan. As an erudite scholar and a passionate academic mentor, OS Adeyemi accords significance to impacting lives through teaching, research, and community service. He has demonstrated sound academic leadership, having successfully supervised several undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Biochemistry program both within and outside of Nigeria. In addition, he encourages and supports academic strategies that could foster academic excellence. OS Adeyemi has over 100 research publications, including books and chapters in books. In testament to his scholarship in the area of drug discovery, his findings in the areas of nanomedicine received two (2) Japan Patents in 2017. Additionally, his research findings received the eighth Japan Veterinary Science (JVS) Prize Award for 2017–2018. He has also served as a PhD External Assessor to universities within and outside of Nigeria, and he enjoys the membership of several professional bodies. OS Adeyemi is a recipient of several awards and fellowships, among which are the NRF Postdoctoral Fellowships at Rhodes University, South Africa (2012); the Rhodes University Postdoctoral Fellowship, South Africa (2013); the TWAS/CNPQ Fellowship, Brazil (2015); and the JSPS Fellowship, Japan (2015 and 2020). He is an expert reviewer for several grant awarding bodies such as the NRF (National Research Foundation, South Africa), RSTMH (Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, UK), as well as many academic journals. In addition, OS Adeyemi serves on the editorial board of several academic journals, such as Scientific Reports, BMC Complementary Medicine & Therapy, and the Journal of Molecular and Biochemical Toxicology, among others. For extracurricular activities, OS Adeyemi engages in educational and church outreaches, and he likes to play chess.
Discipline:
Biochemistry
Area Of Specialization:
Institution:
Landmark University
Research interest:
My research activities focus on medicinal biochemistry, nanomedicine and toxicology. In summary, my research endeavours have contributed largely to the following:
(i) screening libraries of chemical compounds in order to identify potential anti-parasite agents,
(ii) the molecular and biochemical characterization of alternative therapeutic agents and their biomedical targets to deepen our understanding of their biological interactions and effects,
(iii) the synthesis and functionalisation of nanoparticles as selective therapeutic inhibitors, and
(iv) medicinal and toxicological evaluation of natural products, including plants, microbes, and animals, for targeted therapeutic purposes.
Awards:
