Professor Adejuwon Adewale ADENEYE had his primary and secondary education at St. Thomas African Church School, Ijebu-Igbo (1979-1985) and Odofin Secondary School, Mile 2, Lagos (1986-1991), respectively. He had his undergraduate medical education at the University of Ilorin (1992-1998); obtained M.Sc. degree (Pharmacology) from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (2005), Ph.D. (Pharmacology) from the University of Lagos (2010), D.Sc. (Alternative Medicine) from the Open International University, Colombo (2013). He joined the services of Lagos State University (LASU) in June 2005 as Lecturer II and rose through the ranks to become the first inbred Professor of Pharmacology, Therapeutics & Toxicology, LASU. He served as the Ag. HOD, Department of Pharmacology (2014-2016) and Ag. Dean, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Lagos State University College of Medicine (2016-2018) and currently the Director, LASU Directorate of Research Management & Innovation (Oct. 2021-Oct. 2024). Prof. Adeneye has over 120 research publications including 3 Books (which are all available on amazon bookstores) and 2 Chapter contributions in the areas of drug discovery, ethnopharmacology, therapeutic drug repurposing and toxicology for diabetes mellitus, obesity and dyslipidemia. His major research contributions include the landmark discoveries of:
(i). a novel alpha-glucosidase inhibitor antihyperglycemic molecule (erinidine) isolated from the seeds of Nigerian medicinal plant, Hunteria umbellata (K. Schum) Hallier f.
(ii). a mechanistic model of implantable closed-loop Blood Glucose Monitoring and Activity-Based Insulin Infusion Pump System (known as “Artificial Pancreas Delivery System”).
Prof. Adejuwon A. Adeneye is a recipient of Young Affiliate Award of TWAS-ROSSA (2014); 2013 AU-TWAS Best Young Scientists National Award and 2010 Fulbright JSD Scholarship Award. He is also a Foundation Fellow of the prestigious Academy of Medicine Specialties of Nigeria (FAMedS) and a Fellow of National Academy of Medicine (FAMed). Prof. Adeneye is currently the Director, LASU Directorate of Research Management and Innovation, under the Office of the Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University, where he coordinates funded research, including capacity building for Next Generation Research Leaders and galvanizes the nexus between the academia and the industry using innovative approaches. Prof. Adeneye is happily married.
