Murtala obtained a BSc Biochemistry degree from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in 2011. Between 2013 and 2019, he obtained MSc and PhD degrees in Biochemistry from University of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. He has published a number of scientific research and review articles in the field of drug discovery against infectious and metabolic diseases. He is primarily affiliated with Umaru Musa Yar’adua University Katsina, where he teaches and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students. He has been involved in organising workshops, including anti-plagiarism workshop, to researchers. He coordinates NYA's webinar series aimed at disseminating scientific ideas to the wider community.
