Professor Kayode Adebowale National Young Scientist Prize

A Nigerian Young Academy National Award for Research in Chemistry

In line with her objectives, the NYA, through the kind donation of Prof. Kayode Adebowale established the “Professor Kayode Adebowale National Young Scientist Prize in Chemistry” with a view to promoting original research in Chemistry especially among young scientists in Nigeria. This new initiative commences in 2014. The award is open to both male and female young researchers in all areas of research in Chemistry. The award is designed to recognize the scientific achievements of young researchers working in the field of Chemistry and living in Nigeria; and to encourage them to continue to strive for excellence in their research in Chemistry. WORKSHOP CONCEPT

Research is vital in addressing basic human needs in the area of health, energy, food, environment, e.t.c. and in promoting secured and sustainable development in any society. Research is essential to our everyday lives and to our economy. Products of research could drive innovation and create jobs. It impacts positively on the economic growth of a society by creating products that bring major societal benefits to the quality of life of persons living in the society and meeting societal needs. However, there is a sharp decline in the quality of research from young researchers in Nigeria, which has reflected in the downward trend in the developmental growth of the Nigerian society. In response to this, The Nigerian Young Academy (NYA) in collaboration with the University of Ibadan (UI) Postgraduate School is organizing a workshop. The overarching aim of this workshop is to train young researchers from Nigerian Universities and Research Institutes on:

-Good laboratory practice

-Research proposals and grant writing

-Practical sessions on the use of statistical software (e.g. Stata, Eview,

Graphpad, Matlab)

-Research design for innovation

-Research fellowship and scholarship opportunities

-Plagiarism in scientific writing

-Patenting and intellectual property rights

-Oral and Poster Presentations of Scientific data

Application Form 2014

Call is hereby made for application!!

The award consists of award certificate and ₦50,000 prize money. The award shall be presented to the award winner at the General Assembly/National Conference of the NYA in 2014. The date, place and details of the ceremony will be communicated to the award winner.

Selection Details

· Candidate should not be older than 45 years of age by May 31st of the year of application.

· Candidate should show scholarly research in the field of Microbiology and must be affiliated to a not-for-profit research institution in Nigeria (e.g. Universities or Research Institutes).

Professor Aderemi Kuku National Young Scientist Award In Mathematical Sciences

A Nigerian Young Academy National Award in Mathematical Sciences

Application Form 2014

Call is hereby made for application!

The award will be given annually and consists of an award certificate signed by the Presidents of NAS and NYA, and ₦50,000 (fifty thousand Naira only) prize money. The Nigerian Young Academy is responsible for administering this award in Nigeria, and the decision of the Jury shall be final.

Eligibility:

h The award is designed to recognize the scientific achievements of young researchers working in the different fields of Mathematics and living in Nigeria; and to encourage them to continue to strive for excellence in their research in Mathematics. The award is open to both male and female young researchers in all areas of research in:

· Mathematics – Pure and Applied

· Statistics

· Computer Science and

· Mathematical Physics

h Candidate should not be more than 45 years of age by May 31st of the year of application.

h Candidate should have evidences of involvement in scholarly research in the field of Mathematics and must be affiliated to a not-for-profit research institution in Nigeria (e.g. Universities or Research Institutes).
